I Did Something Today I Haven't Done in Months...

I worked out!  Yeah, yeah, you are probably saying, "So what? Do you want a medal?"  While I certainly don't deserve or want a medal, I have to say that it felt so good to sweat today.  I haven't been able to work out in nearly 3 months. My heart rate was getting WAY too high due to the thyroid disease, so the doc recommended I back off the working out until my thyroid decided to behave. Well, after 3 months and nearly 10lbs gained, I decided to put the 'ol thyroid to the test.  Earlier this year I became a huge Shaun T groupie after completing Insanity.  Lucky for me, Shaun T (it's very important to always include the T) developed a new workout that just launched, Focus T25.

So, I decided to #pushplay and see if I could do it without passing out, ha ha!  Good news! I finished the workout and didn't have to call 911. I'd say that was a success.  My max heart rate today was only 173.  That is down quite a bit from the 205 I was hitting prior to my thyroid procedure. In case you are wondering, the Max heart rate for someone my age is 185 beats per minute. All joking aside, I am lucky I never went into cardiac arrest earlier this year. 

Other than finally getting to work out again, I am starting to feel better from the radioactive iodine procedure. I can't say that I've had a huge change, but I am noticing that my energy has improved and I'm sleeping better. The purpose of the procedure was to force me into hypothyroid, and I don't think that has happened yet, although, I know I'm out of hyperthyroid based on the weight gain. I'm no longer able to eat whatever I want and not gain weight, boo hoo.  That is the one side effect of hyperthyroid that I wish I could keep. But no such luck. It's time to get my rear in gear and do something about it! 

My one fear with this whole thyroid disease is weight gain, so I know I'm going to have to buckle down and really pay attention to what I'm eating and the amount of physical activity I participate in. I'm not going to be crazy about it, but I am going to do my best to eat as "clean" as possible, which basically means avoiding processed foods.  I enjoy food too much to be a psycho dieter. All in moderation is my motto. As for getting physical, the T25 workout program is going to be perfect. Since it only requires about 25 minutes a day, there is no excuse not to do it. I'm not gonna lie, its an ass kicking 25 minutes, but I LOVE IT! 

On a completely other note, it has been a CRAZY few weeks around here.  My uncle passed away on June 15, 2013 which brought family in town from Colorado. While the circumstances were not ideal, it was wonderful to see my parents and sisters that week.  Then, we celebrated the #verymerryfeldtwedding the following week. It was a fantastic party and one that will go down in the books as one of the coolest weddings ever! Add to that a few bbq's to celebrate our nation's independence and I'd say our summer has been full of family, friends and fun! I feel blessed to have had been apart of it all and to have had the energy to keep up!
